Ishq (1997) is a Hindi-language romantic comedy film directed by Indra Kumar. It stars Ajay Devgan, Juhi Chawla, Aamir Khan, and Kajol. The film is about two wealthy businessmen who despise the poor, but their children fall in love with people from poor backgrounds. The fathers try to sabotage their children’s relationships, but the lovers eventually overcome their obstacles and get together.
The film begins with Ranjit Rai (Sadashiv Amrapurkar) and Harbans Lal Saxena (Dalip Tahil) two wealthy businessmen who are best friends. They have one thing in common: they both hate poor people. Ranjit’s son Ajay (Ajay Devgan) is a carefree young man who loves to party and have fun. He is also friends with Raja (Aamir Khan), a poor mechanic. Harbans’s daughter Madhu (Juhi Chawla) is a kind and gentle young woman who is good friends with Kajal (Kajol), a poor singer.
One day, Ranjit and Harbans decide to fix up their children’s marriages. They get Ajay and Madhu to sign a marriage certificate without their knowledge. They then send Ajay to meet Madhu at Harbans’s place in Ooty. As fate would have it, Kajal and Raja follow them, resulting in Ajay falling in love with Kajal instead and Raja falling in love with Madhu.
Ranjit and Harbans are furious when they find out about their children’s relationships. They try to bribe Raja and Kajal into leaving Madhu and Ajay, but the lovers refuse. The fathers then resort to more drastic measures. They kidnap Kajal and try to force her to marry Ajay. However, Ajay and Raja rescue Kajal and the lovers flee to the airport.
Ranjit and Harbans chase after them, but they are too late. Ajay and Madhu get on the plane and fly away to start a new life together. Ranjit and Harbans realize their mistake and they apologize to their children. They finally realize that love is more important than money.
